About the project

Why Vocal of Local?

Arunachal Pradesh is home to over 30 major tribes, each with its own language, dialects, and traditions. Many of these languages are spoken by only a few thousand people — and exist nowhere in writing.

Vocal of Local is a living archive built by the communities themselves — a place where native speakers contribute, verify, and preserve their words for future generations, and where visitors can learn to speak with the hills.

Community-Driven

Every word and phrase is contributed by native speakers from across Arunachal Pradesh.

Verified & Authentic

Entries are reviewed by other speakers and approved by moderators before they go live.

Audio Pronunciation

Hear how words are actually spoken — recorded by real native speakers, not synthesized.
